Footner, Geoffrey M.

Geoffrey M. Footner went to work on the waterfront of his native Baltimore after serving as a U.S. Navy officer in both theaters of World War II. His first venture, Footner & Co., operated as international cargo brokers from 1950 to 1972. A subsequent containership agency began in 1972 and was sold in 1979, after which he managed military shipping for the Egyptian government under the Camp David agreements.

Footner attended Loyola College in Baltimore and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has done graduate work at Columbia University and the School of Political Economy, Johns Hopkins University.

A lifelong student of maritime history, Footner is the author a number of books, including Tidewater Triumph: The Development and Worldwide Success of the Chesapeake Bay Pilot Schooner. In addition, Footner is the president of the Historic Fells Point Foundation.
