Jensen, Ann

Ann Jensen lives in Annapolis, Maryland, in the three-hundred-year-old Sands house that has been her family’s home since 1771. Growing up she was told stories of families and life in Annapolis of years past, which was the beginning of Jensen’s love of history, especially that of Annapolis, Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay.

She earned a BA from the University of Maryland and has written and coauthored several books on the history of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay, including Chesapeake Bay Schooners, Leonard Calvert and the Maryland Adventure, and The World Turned Upside Down: Children of 1776. Additionally Jensen has written several articles for many periodicals, including Annapolitan, Maryland Magazine, American Educator, American Heritage, American History Illustrated, and National Trust for Historic Preservation Journal.

Jensen is a member of the Annapolis History Consortium and the Maryland Writers Association. She has received the Historic Annapolis Foundation Community Award, Maryland Society of Professional Journalists’ Excellence in Journalism award for human interest, and the 2001 Literary Annie Award, which is presented to an individual who has made a lasting, significant, and inspiring contribution to an art form.
