Meyer, Eugene L.
Award-winning author Eugene L. Meyer is a journalist and author with a special interest in history as it affects the present. He writes often about offbeat places and extraordinary, ordinary people. A veteran Washington Post staff writer, Meyer also worked for the New York Herald Tribune and the Philadelphia Bulletin.
Meyer launched his career with a Wall Street Journal Newspaper Fund grant. Later, he was a Washington Post Duke Fellow, in 1985, and the 1991 James Thurber Journalist-in-Residence at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Meyer is a graduate of Columbia College in New York.
The Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild (WBNG) awarded him their top award for Distinguished Local Reporting in 1995 and 1999. In 1996, the WBNG awarded him with the Bernie Harrison Memorial Award for Commentary and Criticism. Meyer’s work has won citations from the American Bar Association, Sigma Delta Chi, the National Association of Home Builders, the Washington Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association.
In 2007, Meyer received the Gold Award for best column from the International Regional Magazine Association and the Best Reported Non-Fiction Award from the Washington Independent Writers Association. Meyer is the author of Maryland Lost and Found…Again.
