Milwee, William I., Jr.

William I. Milwee Jr. received a BS from the United States Naval Academy and a BS in marine engineering and MS in naval architecture from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. He served as a naval officer (Commander, U.S. Navy, Ret.) and is a consultant in salvage and related disciplines.

Milwee has attended casualties as a U.S. Navy salvage officer and commercially as salvage master, salvage engineer, and consultant to owners, hull insurers, P&I clubs, and other interests. He has worked on all seven continents and in many remote locations in conjunction with salvage work.

Author of numerous technical papers and articles published in the United States and Great Britain, he is a frequent contributor to Naval Engineers Journal, Naval Institute Proceedings, Seaways, the Journal of the Nautical Institute, and several technical publications on marine salvage, diving, ocean engineering, and marine operations. He was guest editor for the Marine Technology Society Journal Special Issue on Diving, and technical editor for U.S. Navy Ship Salvage Manual. He is a member of the SCOPIC Panel—a group of salvage consultants approved by a group of industry associations to represent all parties and their insurers at marine casualties. Milwee is the author of Modern Marine Salvage.
