A former high school and college athlete, William W. Mowbray played on collegiate baseball all-star teams and is an inveterate collector of Eastern Shore League baseball stories and memorabilia. He was offered a professional baseball contract by Rex Bowen of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1958. He is a member of the National Association of Sportswriters and Broadcasters, Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association, Society for American Baseball Research, Friends of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the American Power Boat Association, and the Cambridge Power Boat Regatta Association. Mowbray is the author of Powerboat Racing on the Chesapeake.
