Newson, Moses J.

Moses J. Newson received his degree in journalism from Lincoln University in Missouri. As a reporter, he traveled extensively covering such landmark events as school integration in Little Rock, Arkansas; the activities of the Freedom Riders in Alabama; and independence in the Bahamas. He served on the staff of the Afro-American newspapers in Baltimore for twenty years, ten as their executive editor. The winner of editorial, news, and feature writing awards from the Maryland-DC-Delaware Press Association and the National Newspaper Publishers Association, he also was a Pulitzer Prize panel juror for four terms. Newson left the newspaper in 1978 and retired from a public affairs position with a federal agency in January 1995. Newson helped Sam Lacy write his autobiography Fighting for Fairness: The Life Story of Hall of Fame Sportswriter Sam Lacy.
