Richard M. Plant received his Bachelor of Science in marine transportation from New York State Maritime College, SUNY Maritime at Fort Schuyler in 1967. He has served as a deck officer (third mate, second mate, and chief mate) on various merchant vessels. He was an instructor at Texas Maritime College for three years and an instructor and department head at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) in Linthicum, Maryland, from 1973 to 1997. Plant is the author of Formulae for the Mariner, Second Edition.
