Vojtech, Pat

Growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Pat Vojtech fell in love with the land, its saltwater marshes, and woodlands. At age fifteen, she found a broken camera in her parents' basement, fixed it, and acquired a passion for photography. Within a year, she had landed her first job with a local newspaper, and has been working professionally as an author/photographer ever since. Pat received her first two Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association awards in photography at age seventeen. Many more awards followed throughout her career. Her work has appeared in a variety of publications, including Caribbean Travel & Life, Americana, Country Woman, and Chesapeake Life, and has graced the covers of numerous books, magazines, and calendars.

In 1990, Pat embarked on the task of documenting the dynamic but disappearing living history of the Chesapeake. These photographs are part of her books, including Chesapeake Bay Skipjacks, Chesapeake Wildlife: Stories of Survival and Loss and Lighting the Bay: Tales of Chesapeake Lighthouses. Vojtech has appeared on several documentaries, including Outdoors Maryland and the PBS series Legendary Lighthouses.
