White, James F., Jr.

James F. White Jr. is a native Delawarean whose early interest in nature was sparked by watching nature shows on television. He received a BS in entomology and applied ecology from the University of Delaware.

During a trip to Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia in 1982, White became interested in amphibians and reptiles. In the 1980s he was one of three principal investigators for the five-year Delaware Herpetological Survey, which gathered distributional information throughout the state. Since 1983 White has worked for the Delaware Nature Society, currently as associate director, land and biodiversity management.

White teaches herpetology at the University of Delaware and has his own business, Hyla Associates, which conducts field studies of amphibians, reptiles, and other vertebrates at various sites in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. White is the coauthor of Amphibians and Reptiles of Delmarva. He lives in Delaware with his wife, Amy, and their two boys.
