Zubaly, Robert B.

Robert B. Zubaly, Professor of Engineering at the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College, received his BS in naval architecture and marine engineering from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. While pursuing advanced studies in mechanical engineering at Columbia University, he began a career devoted to teaching and research in naval architecture that has lasted for forty-six years.

He has lectured or conducted research at all of the maritime-related institutions of higher education in the New York metropolitan area, several east coast shipyards, the American Bureau of Shipping, and the Seamen’s Church Institute. He was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1973. Many of his students have become prominent merchant ship officers, maritime business executives, flag-rank officers in the United States Navy and Coast Guard, and admiralty attorneys.
Zubaly is a fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, which awarded him the Centennial Medallion in 1993 and the Webb Medal for outstanding contributions to education in naval architecture in 2001. Zubaly is the author of Applied Naval Architecture.
